VW rally

PLANS to stage a rally for owners of historic Volkswagen camper vans on the County Showground, Northwood, are set to be heard by licensing bosses at the Isle of Wight Council on Thursday.

V-Dub Island is planned to last for four days, between Friday, August 19, and Monday, August 22, if it is given the go-ahead by members of the council’s licensing committee.

However, the proposed rally has attracted criticism from two residents who say the request for a late licence for music and dancing would create unnecessary disturbance up to 3am on the Sunday. Northwood Parish Council has also voiced concern.

Between 800 and 1,000 VW enthusiasts are expected at the event, which will feature a marquee showing films of past rallies, a bar, recorded music and live bands.

Strict conditions about noise levels at the site are being requested by members of the Isle of Wight Council’s environmental health team.
Doug Alldred, of organiser Blunt Rocks, said: “There are no objections from police or environmental health officers and we are keen to work with everyone to ensure it runs smoothly.”

Vans and the places where they were
by Joe Stevens

This is an amazing website that captures different types of vans and their environments. I’m a bit pedantic when it comes to taking pictures, so it’s nice to see the format staying the same between each one - there’s no time wasted comparing the difference in photographer style or framing elements. Of course the composition for each one is different, but that’s completely dependent on the content.
I think it’s incredible how well each one of these vans fits into their own background. From what I can tell they are VW’s in the most part - there are new vans and used vans (that you can see on their own page if you follow the link), but they all have their own appeal.
Whether you like shiny road-burners or clapped out old bangers with “character” then this gallery is for you. I’d really like to see them all boosted up and printed for an exhibition
There are a ton more pictures here, and you can read more about the project that the info was reblogged from here: http://bldgwlf.com/vans/
Here’s an excerpt:

Vans and the places where they were documents surviving custom and conversion vans across the West and examines the dialogue which exists between a van’s design aesthetic and that of its surrounding environment. The project began in 1996 and currently consists of hundreds of images shot on 120 film.

Fans get a peek at the Alfa Romeo of Juan Manuel Fangio ahead of the 1051 Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps.

Fangio qualified in pole position, but in the race his wheels jammed, pushing him down the field to last place after a 14-minute pitstop. The race was won by Fangio’s Alfa team mate, Nino Farina.

Competition

http://www.volkswagen-vans.co.uk/competitions/vw-racing-cup-competition/

VW are having a competition in which you can win tickets to see the racing up. It’s vans vans vans roaming the tracks - always pretty exciting when they start getting shoulder to shoulder on the ashphalt. They’re famous for some of their vans, as well you lot will know, so the best in show are home-grown.

The question is at the URL above, and the answer is Simon Elliott - it’s one of those where they give you the answer and then expect a lot of people to sign up for it. Free and easy to enter, you just have to fill out some text boxes. They let you into the paddocks to have a look around, meet the drivers and have a prod around udner the hood. If you’ve got enough chat, maybe you can even get behind the wheel?

I applied, anyway! Thought I’d share. Cheers guys.
